Leading From a Different Cultural Perspective

In this episode, Tony and Fabio talk about how the Information Technology industry is nowadays and how focus and control can help an individual become a good leader. Fabio explains how his team is structured, how they get the work done and their outlook on providing excellent services. He tells a story about how he and his team solved the Millennium Bug problem in the Legacy System that their company is using. Their main problem was migrating the old system to the new one. He stresses that due to the vastness of the project, the best way to attack the problem was to divide it in chunks and delegate.
Another thing that was discussed thoroughly in this episode is capitalizing the investment on problem solving. Tony mentioned that as a leader, you have the vision not only to solve the perceived problem but to make sure that the investment in solving the problem puts you in a better position. Fabio also stresses that
You have to make sure that you lead by example in order to get the trust and respect of your subordinates.
Both also talked about how it is to hold an international job and what the advantages and disadvantages are of having one. Fabio gave several examples on how a different culture can provide a problem to leaders. He points out that language and culture is the biggest hurdle that one has to overcome but the toughest one is the time zone.
