Managing a Virtual Team
This week on Impact Teams Radio, Tony discusses a very specific aspect of leadership with Pattie Barnes, the National Sales Director of SpokenHere. Being in a company that employs personnel all around the US and the globe, Pattie is a pioneer in virtual team management. They started this type of business plan before the term “Virtual Teams” was ever coined.
In this episode, Pattie discusses the leap that technology has provided when it came to improving communication in a virtual workplace. Back in the days, they were limited to telephone conference calls where everybody had to be in their homes at a specific time in order to conduct a meeting. There were many difficulties with the limited options which included time zone differences, facility availability and the inability to reach the team during emergency situations.
Today, those difficulties still exists, but with the help of smart phones and other tools like Skype, the struggles have been kept to a minimum.
They also discuss more strategies on handling virtual teams like the 15 minute rule, the pig and chicken story and developing an environment where sacrifices on both parties are kept to a minimum while maintaining productivity on a constant high.
